The Customer

Propel, a pioneer in clean fuel retail, has been leading the industry with unparalleled innovation in retail technology and connecting consumers to better fuel since 2004. The company has developed CleanDrive®, the first integrated carbon emission reduction tracking platform in the US and aims at delivering new fuel choices with higher performance for better value. Propel operates a network of renewable fuel choices through its advanced diesel locations across California.

THE PROBLEM AND THE FOLIO3 SOLUTION

The company wanted to provide its users with information regarding Flex Fuel and clean diesel fueling stations, making it easier for them to find performance fuel and its updated pricing when travelling anywhere in the US especially the California region. The company was therefore looking for a reliable technology partner who would provide them with attractive visuals along with the right technology that was both cost efficient and compatible with most platforms.

Propel Fuel chose Folio3 as its development partner for this project due to their reputation for delivering high quality solutions and extensive expertise in developing cross platform mobile applications.

After discussing the client’s specific requirements, Folio3 decided to adopt an approach that will provide maximum usability, cost effectiveness and cross platform reach to the client. The dedicated team of Folio3 decided on developing the app in the leading hybrid app framework of Sencha to harness the 3 most powerful development languages to deliver high performance capabilities. The robust features of this framework can easily be ported to any of the major mobile platforms including iOS, Android or Windows, making it a cost effective choice.

Folio3 developed Propel Fuel, a Sencha based cross platform app for iOS and Android platforms that provides the users with locations of nearby fuel stations selling E85 Flex Fuel and diesel HPR as well as updated pricing information. The app has an inbuilt Fuel Price Checker that offers updated pricing information of the fuel in real-time while the Map services gives turn by turn directions to the nearest fuel station providing Propel’s Flex Fuel. Users can also look up vehicle compatibility for E85 Flex Fuel and clean diesel through the app, find information regarding benefits of the performance fuel and visit the Q & A forum for queries.

The Propel Fuel mobile application is compatible with both iOS and Android platforms, and works well on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch technologies. The initial project took around 2 months to develop and Folio3 has been proudly providing information updates, backend updates and bug fixes to the client along with support since 1st July 2014.

TECHNOLOGY USED

Propel Fuel is built on Sencha framework that yokes together the powerful features of JavaScript, CSS3 and HTML5 to provide the Propel Fuel app its cross platform responsiveness and speed.
